Prefect Nicușor Halici announced his resignation from public office on Thursday. The announcement was made during the meeting of the Prefectural College. Nicușor Halici resigned from the post of prefect because he will run for the presidency of the Vrancea County Council from the Social Democratic Party. Nicușor Halici is the president of PSD Vrancea. He thanked the heads of public institutions for their collaboration during the period in which he was in charge of the Prefect’s Institution. At the same time, he asked them to suspend themselves from their leadership positions if they find themselves on the lists of candidates for the local elections. He also asked them not to get involved in the upcoming election campaign and to comply with the provisions of the Administrative Code, which sanctions the actions in the public space of officials who participate in political actions or express their political options. In this context, Nicușor Halici emphasized that even social networks are considered public space.
“I have never broken the law, nor do I intend to. I have always respected the ethics and moral conduct of the public office. I resigned from the post of prefect in order not to involve the institution in political activities, and I ask the same of the heads of institutions, whether they are civil servants or with a management contract. I ask them not to use the positions they hold for political purposes or to campaign. If they want to get involved in political actions then they should resign or suspend themselves from the positions they hold. I will request that measures be taken against those who will be found on the lists of candidates for the elections and have not given up their positions. I draw attention to the fact that even social networks are considered public space, according to court decisions, and public officials, according to the Administrative Code, must refrain from expressing political opinions in public space”, said Nicușor Halici.
