Cooperative “Work in vain”? Dozens of other tons of garbage on the public domain

--

In less than a month, more than 50 tons of abandoned waste were collected from the public domain of Timisoara. Thus, from February 26 to March 18, Horticultura employees and partner teams picked up pets, packaging, food scraps and other waste from parks, playgrounds, squares and other green spaces, totaling 51.6 tons. The vegetable waste was transported to a specialized center, where it will be turned into compost and later used to fertilize the soil in parks and flower beds.

Timișoara City Hall claims that it makes constant efforts to take care of green spaces and encourages citizens to be active partners in maintaining cleanliness in the city. For the time being, coercive methods are applied, that is, we are told that “the fines for those who abandon waste or do not comply with the legal collection rules reach tens of thousands of lei, to which are also added the costs of sanitizing the spaces where they were illegally stored or non-compliant”.

With more than 11,000 tons of garbage illegally abandoned on the street in 2023 and with 68 locations where waste is frequently abandoned, the municipality claims that it will continue “the fight for a cleaner city together with the people of Timisoara”.

Probably, if sanitation were not considered a struggle, but a service that the municipality must provide, possibly coming up with other ideas, it would be better, because that is how it is seen that it does not work.
