Sentence reduced to 7 years in prison for a man from Bihor who killed, with one punch, a young man who had done him a favor

Aged 25, Todea was charged with assault causing death after causing the death of a citizen whom he punched.

The appeals court upheld the moral damages of 1.7 million lei and the funeral expenses of 16,000 lei, which the Bihor Court awarded, in December 2023, to the victim’s parents and brother.

The shocking incident after which Ionuț Todea was sent to prison happened on the morning of March 27, 2022, a little after 5:00. The man was returning from a disco, together with his wife who lost control of the car he was driving and went off the road, in the area of ​​the Sudrigiu commune.

The incident was seen by Mădălin Sas, a 28-year-old young man, also from Buntești, who was also coming from a party with some friends, and who asked the driver of the car he was in to take them the two husbands. It’s just that, at some point, Todea allegedly started arguing with his partner, and the driver stopped the car. Mădălin went down to calm down the quarrelers, but he was violently punched by Ionuț Todea and fell, hitting his head on the ground.

The 28-year-old died shortly after, despite the intervention of a medical team. The aggressor was detained and then arrested, and during the trial he was sent to house arrest.

In December last year, the Bihor Court sentenced Ionuț Todea to 10 years in prison. In order to ensure that the defendant will pay moral damages of 1.7 million lei to the victim’s family, the trial court ordered “the taking of insurance measures on the movable and immovable assets, present and future, including the amounts of money due to the defendant or on the sums of money deposited in bank accounts, up to the limit of 1,716,473.11 lei”.
