Turkish direct investments in Romania have reached a very high level of 7.5 billion dollars, when investments from third countries are also included, said Cevdet Yılmaz, vice president of Turkey, at a meeting with businessmen in the capital of Romania , Bucharest.

In terms of direct investments, Romania is among the top 10 countries among the European Union member states in which Turkish companies invest, and in the contracting sector it is a country that ranks first in Europe, he said.

He said trade figures for the first three months of this year indicated there would be “very serious growth this year”.

“I hope we will reach $13 billion, but we are aiming for a much higher trade volume in the medium to long term,” he said.

“Our bilateral trade volume has crossed the $10 billion mark and we are very pleased with that. We have full confidence that this momentum will continue,” he said.

Last year, the total volume of trade increased to 10.6 billion dollars. Turkey’s exports amounted to $6.9 billion, while imports amounted to $3.6 billion.

“The geographical proximity of Romania to our country, the existing transport facilities and the presence of businessmen and entrepreneurs operating here increase the potential for trade and cooperation between the two countries,” he said.
