The 20th edition of the Vaslui dyed eggs festival has opened its doors. More than 20 craftsmen from Moldova and Bucovina, with icons on wood or glass, fabrics and wicker baskets, came to the event that has already become a tradition.
“To paint an egg is not extraordinarily difficult. It takes a little bit of will, patience and heart to hatch an egg, especially for our Christian traditions. It is painted on Maundy Thursday, on Passion Thursday, but it can be painted at any time, all year round. It was also used for funerals, baptisms,” said Dan Horgan, teacher.
Children are very excited about learning the craft of dyeing eggs, because they are the ones who carry the tradition forward.
“I strongly believe that they will surprise their parents at home. They even whispered among themselves who had the most beautiful dyed eggs and said “I’m going to give a lesson to my parents to show them exactly how eggs are dyed”, said Marius Şovnicu, priest.

More than 20 craftsmen from Moldova and Bukovina came this year to the 20th edition of the festival to pass on the tradition of dyeing Easter eggs.
“There are also those from Botoșani, Suceava, Bacău, craftsmen who come with different products that are made by them”, stated Lucian Lefter, ethnologist.
Tourists came in large numbers to the fair to buy Easter gifts and decorations.
“I liked the eggs very much. I liked the big ones the most”, confessed a child.
Tourists can still arrive at the festival until this evening at 8 p.m.
