The number of FDGR members, decreasing. The President of the Forum encourages the Saxon emigrants to keep in touch with Transylvania

--

The President of the Democratic Forum of Transylvanian Germans stated during the press conference regarding the second edition of the International Meeting of the Saxons that the number of FDGR members is decreasing.

FDGR President Martin Bottesch noted a significant drop in membership. In this way, he said that he encourages the children of Saxon emigrants to keep in touch with Romania, in order to contribute to the preservation of the cultural heritage.

“It is common knowledge that our membership is declining. Currently, we have over 2,000 members in Transylvania and 10,000 throughout the country. It is important that young emigrants, or the children of emigrants, keep a connection with the country. It is a very rich cultural heritage in Transylvania, and preserving this heritage is a very difficult task. Together with the emigrants we can do more in this direction”, said Martin Bottesch, president of FDG Transilvania.

The International Meeting of the Saxons will take place between August 2-4 in Sibiu, an event where the soloist Peter Maffay will take the stage. Read also: Over 10,000 Saxons gather in the center of Sibiu in August. Peter Maffay performs a concert at the event in Piața Mare
