“We honor the heroes of the Romanian nation”. On Thursday, April 25, starting at 5:00 p.m., in the sumptuous “King Ferdinand I and Queen Maria” Hall of the “Carol I” Brăile Museum, in Traian Square 3, the event dedicated to War Veterans Day took place, with the extraordinary participation of the Brailean veteran from the Second World War, retired Major Ion Dragostin, aged 101, from the village of Oancea, Romanu commune.

The program of the event included: Exhibition of medals, orders and patents, organized by Capt. cdor. (rtr.) Valerică Butoi, Photo exhibition “In memoriam – Brailenian veterans from the Second World War”, organized by col. (rz.) Dr. Eng. Mihail Balaban, “Bridge over the Prut” (video link with the State University of Cahul, Republic of Moldova), a literary-artistic moment supported by the Cenacle “Beyond Words”, coordinator Prof. Dr. Gabriela Vasiliu, “Gheorghe Munteanu Murgoci” National College, “Destiny of war veterans”, speech given by Prof. Dr. Ștefan Aftodor, Brăila Branch of the Society of Historical Sciences and “The hero from my family” – stories about war veterans presented by students of the Brăila County Center of Excellence.

The activity was organized at the initiative of the Brăila “General Stan Poetaș” Branch of the “Regina Maria” Cult of Heroes National Association, with the participation of the Brăila Garrison and the County Center of Excellence.

The retired Major Ion Dragostin, from Oancea village, Romanu commune – one of the last war veterans from Brăila county – was celebrated, at the beginning of March, on his 101st birthday, inwithin the “Veterans 100 plus” activity, initiated in 2019 by the Branch Braila “General Stan Poetaș” of the “Regina Maria” Cult of Heroes National Association. The participants of the event presented the war veteran with diplomas, flowers, a badge, a cake and bouquets of flowers. The war veteran was then accompanied by family members, the mayor of the Romanu commune, Steluța Ioniță, col. (rz.) Dr. Eng. Mihail Balaban, col. (rtr.) Ghirea Iacobici, president of the Brăila branch of the National Association of Veterans of the Second World War, as well as representatives of the Brăila Garrison, more precisely soldiers from the 72nd Genius Battalion “General Constantin Savu” (10th Genius Brigade “Lower Danube” ).
