Gasoline became cheaper. The Petrom station on Virtuții Street in Bucharest, monitored by Economica, displays on May 8, 2024 a price of standard gasoline of 7.34 lei/liter, while the price of standard diesel is 7.31 lei/liter.
The oil company lowered the price of gasoline by four pennies per liter and maintained the price of diesel, reducing the price difference between the two fuels, but we remain in the situation where gasoline is more expensive than diesel, a situation that was atypical for Romania.
It is the sixth consecutive fuel price reduction, the second since May. The precedent took place on May 3, when the oil company reduced the price of diesel by five pennies per liter, but maintained the price of gasoline.
Today’s price reduction comes after an identical one that took place on April 27, when the company only made diesel cheaper. The previous day, Petrom reduced the price of diesel by three pennies per liter, the same way, without changing the price of gasoline. And yesterday’s cheapening came three days after the previous price drop. At that time, the oil company reduced the price of diesel by four pennies per liter and lowered the price of gasoline by two pennies per liter. Three days before the price reduction since then, there was another one, when only diesel was cheaper, by six pennies per liter.
Petrom is the leader in the retail distribution of petroleum products in Romania, with a network of 555 distribution stations, of which 393 are Petrom and 162 are OMV.
