Sri Lankans from Romania celebrate the New Year on the banks of the Ampoi river, in Alba Iulia. Music and traditional food

The Sri Lankan New Year is celebrated by the Sri Lankan community in Romania on the banks of the Ampoi River, in Alba Iulia. Hundreds of citizens from the Asian country, who work in Romania, are present at the event.

Sri Lankan workers started preparations for the party as early as Saturday, and the transition to the New Year is celebrated in Alba Iulia with a big party with music and traditional food on the banks of the Ampoi River.

Dozens of people from Sri Lanka work at construction companies in Alba county, which is probably the reason why this place was chosen. The big party is attended by hundreds of people who work in Alba, Sibiu, Cluj, Arad, but also other cities in the country.

The weather cooperated with them and the outdoor party was a real success. The participants enjoyed the music of two Sri Lankan DJs working in Alba, traditional food and lots of good cheer.

Albaiulians were invited to join them at the party, to discover the traditions and customs of the Asian country, but also to taste the delicious Sri Lankan dishes.

Sri Lankans start celebrating the New Year in April, when the Sun moves from the House of Pisces to the House of Aries. It usually falls on April 13 or 14. Hindus use to make drawings of colored powder in front of the house, at the beginning of the new year, to welcome relatives or friends.
