Workshop on the implementation of guidelines to strengthen the antimicrobial resistance monitoring system

At the end of last week, a workshop was organized on the implementation of the guidelines: Detection of mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance, interpretation and clinical application of results and Diagnosis of acute bacterial meningitis, in order to strengthen the monitoring system of antimicrobial resistance of zoonotic and commensal bacteria in the context of the approach One health and the national system of epidemiological surveillance and control of communicable diseases and public health events.

The state secretary of the Ministry of Health, Angela Paraschiv, the director of the National Agency for Public Health, Nicolae Jelamschi and the representative of the WHO country office, Cornelia Panico, participated in the opening of the event. In the welcome speech, the topicality of the issues addressed and the importance of organizing the workshop in restraining the development of the phenomenon of antimicrobial resistance, including in the context of the approach One health.

In order to standardize and ensure the quality of the laboratory diagnosis of bacterial meningitis and the detection of antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, the interpretation and clinical application of the results, the guidelines and their structure were presented. The priority microorganisms and resistance mechanisms presented in the guide were listed, each resistance mechanism was briefly described and discussed in subsequent presentations. Priority principles for quality control in antimicrobial susceptibility testing and resistance mechanisms were also highlighted. At the same time, advanced diagnostic methods of multiresistant microbial agents were discussed, namely PCR and genomic sequencing techniques.

Also, the rules for collecting and transporting biological samples, techniques and approaches in the diagnosis of acute bacterial meningitis were presented. In the context of antimicrobial resistance monitoring of zoonotic and commensal bacteria, some new aspects of the implementation of the joint order ANSP, ANSA and IP CRDV were presented, with the presentation of an updated transport algorithm. At the end, the participants had the opportunity to discuss a case study in the group, applying the information from the guides.

The event was attended by representatives of the WHO, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova, the National Agency for Public Health, IP Republican Center for Veterinary Diagnostics, territorial public health centers, IMSP SCM “Gheorghe Paladi”, IMSP SCM “Sfânta Treime”, IMSP SCR “Timofei Moșneaga”, IMSP Mother and Child Institute, IMSP Institute of Emergency Medicine, IMSP SCBI “Toma Ciorbă”, IMSP IFP “Chiril Draganiuc”, as well as from private laboratories.
