In the middle of spring in the year 2024 those from Motorola have launched the Motorola Edge 50 smartphone lineup, which includes the Edge 50 Pro variant, a flagship called the Edge 50 Ultra and the affordable model Edge 50 Fusion. We have already presented you with the review of the Pro, and today’s star is of course the Motorola edge 50 Fusion, which is meant to be a more accessible model, aimed at young people.

It costs 350 euros on Amazon DE and what it offers for this amount does not sound bad at all. You will get a large AMOLED 144Hz screen, a Snapdragon processor, a lot of RAM and storage, but also a good camera to use on vacation to capture memories, with the advantage of OIS optical stabilization.

Being a Edge that means clear and curved screen, and like the Edge 50 Pro and Fusion, it has eco-leather back variants for a premium feel. The current smartphone is also very good on the multimedia side, and with the large battery inside you will have hours of streaming video or music on the way to the sea.

It’s a very interesting smartphone, a budget option not so different from what the Pro offers and with a similar look. It can be considered a type of Neo, and I remember the fact that the Edge 40 neo was popular even in our country, thanks to its low price and attractive features.

It is more of a rival to the Galaxy A35, and at first glance it is far above the Samsung model. We are convinced by the review and thus start the tests!

A classic “Edge” design and a captivating color

Motorola Edge 50 Fusion although it has a lower price, it remains as good-looking as its bigger brother Motorola Edge 50 Pro, keeping the screen with sexy curved edges, as well as the back covered with eco-leather, but it seems to have a different finish. It comes in two shades of blue and pink/purple, and something to appreciate even in this price segment is the IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.

I like that the back looks identical to what we get on the Pro model, and by that I mean the way the camera module slopes down, being one piece with the whole leather back. Dimensionally, it measures 161.9 x 73.1 x 7.9 mm in thickness and is 11 grams lighter than the Edge 50 Pro, at 174.9 grams vs. 186 grams Pro.

The curved edges are checked and at first glance I noticed a slightly thicker chin than on the Pro, but still thin for the segment it belongs to. It manages to reach a generous body-to-screen ratio of 91.6%, so you can see how narrow the side edges are. They are flagships that do not exceed 90%!

What else I noticed about the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion is that unlike the Pro which uses a metal aluminum frame, here we have a plastic frame. Hence the lighter weight, which makes it feel great in the hand. The diagonal may scare you if you have smaller hands, but the 20:9 format makes it easy to grasp even with one hand from end to end.

The Fusion is a good-looking phone with fashion potential, especially in that trendy pink that may be the star of this summer’s music festivals.

Capable mid-range, with a spectacular screen

The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion is a true mid-range and not so different from what is offered by the model positioned higher in the lineup, namely the Edge 50 Pro. The processor is changing, there are some differences in the camera and battery. Otherwise I don’t see any significant changes, which is a good thing for those who were planning to buy a new smartphone and maybe didn’t have the budget for a Pro.

Regarding the processor, a Snapdragon 7s Gen2 (4nm) vs. Snapdragon 7 Gen3 on the Pro, and the configurations are identical, 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 128, 256 or 512 GB of UFS 2.2 flash storage, without a microSD slot. The screen is a 6.7-inch P-OLED, with FHD+ resolution, 144Hz refresh rate and 91.6% screen-to-body ratio, plus Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

Smartwatch details

It’s not as bright as the panel on the Pro, at the maximum 1600 nits mentioned by Moto (vs. 2000), but it’s not a cause for concern as we’ll find out in the Display section. Continuing with the equipment, we also check here the front camera of 32 mpx, and at the back a dual setup of 50 mpx wide, PDAF, OIS + 13 mpx ultra-wide with autofocus, which means that you can also take macro shots.

We have stereo speakers, a USB-C 2.0 port at the base, an optical fingerprint scanner under the screen and a 5000 mAh battery with 68W wired charging. It’s still an interesting option to consider, clearly over the Galaxy A35 and maybe even over the Galaxy A55.
