BEJ Gorj puts the AUR alliance on hold in the local elections

update: AUR Gorj announced that it will have candidates in the local elections, but separately, not in alliance with the Republican Party.

Initial news: The Gorj County Electoral Office rejected the protocol for establishing the “AUR” electoral alliance, composed of the Romanian Union Alliance Party and the Romanian Republican Party. Thus, AUR will not be able to run in the local elections in Gorj, and the decision could form the basis of a precedent for a ban on the alliance at the national level.

The reason for the rejection was identified in the analysis of the protocol establishing the alliance, registered at the Electoral Office of County Circumscription no. 20 Gorj under number 57|21.04.2024. According to the decision, the protocol was not signed by the management of the organizations of the two political parties at the level of the communes involved in the electoral alliance, thus not fulfilling the established formal conditions.

The decision of the Electoral Bureau was taken following the debates of its members in the meeting of April 22, 2024 and is in accordance with the provisions of article 1 of the decision of the Central Electoral Bureau no. 6H/02.04.2024.
