From today, citizens can receive reimbursed medicines from pharmacies only with their ID card

From today, citizens can receive reimbursed medicines from pharmacies by presenting only their ID card, without the need for a paper prescription. This facility is possible thanks to the implementation of the “e-Prescription” automated information system, to which more than 1300 pharmacies in the localities of the Republic of Moldova are connected.

Patients will be able to request the prescription of a compensated medical preparation or device either from the family doctor or from any specialist who offers specialized medical care at home.

GABRIELA JELEZNÎI, head of the Medicines Department, CNAM: “This mechanism provides for electronic prescription, which would mean that paper forms are excluded. Patients will also have access to reimbursed medicines and medical devices, they will be able to pick them up from any pharmacy in the country , only upon presentation of the identity card of the patient or a person delegating the right to pick up this medicine from the pharmacy.”

Based on the electronic prescription, the patient will be able to pick up the drugs prescribed by the doctor in several visits to the pharmacy.

GABRIELA JELEZNÎI, head of the Medicines Department, CNAM: “If previously the patient, going to the pharmacy, the paper prescription remained at the pharmacy and he was obliged to pick up the entire amount prescribed for a three-month treatment, now depending on whether the patient does not have the full amount in the case of medicines, he can use this prescription in several installments.”

According to pharmacists, the “e-Prescription” system will make their work easier.

MARTA ZLATAN, pharmacist: “It would be faster, since it is no longer needed. We can avoid the step of transcribing the data from the paper prescription form into the system. It is an easy-to-use system with an informational support. Updating the data it’s up to date. There’s no need to update the lists again, which we used to do.”

The National Medical Insurance Company transferred around 95 million lei to the contracted pharmacies for the compensated medicines and medical devices issued this February. The amount is 24 million lei higher than in February 2023.
