Deputy Lilian Scripnic (AUR) states that eleven EU member states, including Romania, will be “reprimanded” by the European Commission due to excessive public spending.

“Eleven EU member states, including Romania, will be “reprimanded” by the European Commission due to excessive public spending.

Romania, which is not a member of the Eurozone, is currently the only country in an excessive deficit procedure.

It is unacceptable that the Romanian government continues to exceed the limit of 3% of GDP for the budget deficit, thus endangering the economic stability of the country and the confidence of European partners.

The government must take responsibility for the lack of fiscal discipline and implement urgent measures to restore the financial situation.

Ignoring EU fiscal rules not only affects Romania’s reputation, but can also lead to sanctions that will have a direct impact on citizens by reducing investment and increasing borrowing costs.

It is essential that the government demonstrates its commitment to the principles of responsible financial governance and develops a concrete plan to avoid the excessive deficit procedure (EDP) and possible fines,” says Lilian Scripnic.
