REPER MP Andrei Lupu accuses the leaders of the extremist AUR party of hypocrisy after they accused the PSD-PNL power of having imposed too many signatures, 200,000, for a party to participate in the European Parliament elections.
Lupu points out that last year the AUR senators voted against a bill that precisely provides for the decrease in the number of signatures required to participate in the elections.
“The definition of populism. Less than a year ago, I proposed a bill according to which the number of signatures to run for any type of election would have dropped to a quarter, and they could also be collected online. All AUR senators voted against it. Today I see George Simion shouting that it is impossible to collect 200,000 signatures and that the system is unfair”, Lupu wrote in a post on a social network”.
The extremist AUR party protested on Thursday in a statement issued together with other parties against the “huge number of signatures required for registration in the elections”. The party led by George Simion shows that “if we want to live in a democracy, then the number of 200,000 signatures to be able to run in the elections must be reduced”.
AUR points out that Romania is among the European countries with the highest number of signatures required to be able to run in the elections and says that this regulation prevents small parties and independent candidates from entering the electoral race.
