Iulian Popescu states that he raised questions about the objectivity of the judicial act at the Gorj Court, as long as “relatives, husbands, wives of those in the court” work at the County Council. The former prefect of Gorj claims that the case won by the County Council is the only one of the four opened by the Prefecture of Gorj, which could not be displaced. Iulian Popescu is waiting to see what the magistrates of the Craiova Court of Appeal will decide on this matter.

“First of all, it’s not about winning a lawsuit. It is a first instance decision that can be appealed. I cannot and will not comment on a court’s decision. Of the four trials in which we are a party with the County Council, this is the only one that was not accepted to be displaced in court and was tried in Târgu-Jiu, where I raised questions about the objectivity of this judicial act, as long as relatives, spouses, the spouses of those in the court work at the County Council. It’s up to those from the County Council what they say. Anyway, the control went ahead. An appeal will be made, for sure. In order to appeal, we must first see the reasoning of the court. Motivation will probably come in the next days, weeks. It is a dangerous thing to say that it was an abuse that must be punished, because then the Prefect’s Institution is emptied of content if it cannot control. As long as the legislation and the central authority mentioned that the Prefect’s Institution can control any administrative-territorial authority, the County Council is also an administrative-territorial authority”, concluded the liberal.
