Shortly after the incident, the victim was transported to the hospital in Galati by the SMURD helicopter, but he lost his life. Now, the medical unit sent the deceased person a summons to pay the amount of 1,800 lei for the expenses of investigations and treatments. The story was described in lavish detail by the dead man’s wife on E85.

The 66-year-old man died on February 23, 2024, following a tragic road accident on E85. In the car driven by the man were his wife and another colleague to go to a course in Bucharest. They left Iași, but they would never have imagined that that would be the last time the Grădinaru couple would be together.

Three cars were involved in the accident, and the first investigations showed that two other drivers were to blame. One of them died on the spot, the other ran away from the scene of the accident.

Anca Gradinaru, the Victim’s Wife: “My husband took right hand drive to save my life. My colleague and I who were in the car arrived with SMURD in Buzău. My husband was taken by helicopter and taken to the Galati Emergency Hospital where he died before midnight”.

And as if the sudden death of the man was not enough, Anca Grădinaru ran into another obstacle: the indifference of the authorities. On March 14, the Galati County Hospital, the unit to which he was transported and where he was declared dead, sent Nicusor Grădinaru in writing that he had a debt of 1,860 lei for hospitalization.

Anca Gradinaru, the Victim’s Wife: “Yesterday, I found a letter addressed to him from the hospital in Galați, where my deceased husband is being asked to pay the sum of 1,800 or so lei and information about the criminal case. To my husband who died at their hospital. I am injured, with a medico-legal certificate, on medical leave for 45 days. On February 25, I was at UPU Iași, at IML. Nobody and nothing brings my husband home. Plus my injuries, trauma and suffering. To live to see my dead husband there in the car without even knowing what’s wrong with him. These have no correspondent in any payment. If I am given the federal reserve, nothing will make up for my suffering and my husband’s death.”

Now, the woman’s only wish is to be able to do something so that other people don’t lose their lives on the E85 road of death.

“Not for me or for him I want it to be heard. I passed with horror because I was summoned to the Buzău Police for statements. There are dozens of crosses. People are dying because Romania gives money for everything, but they are not able to delimit the two directions with parapets. Does the plan to decimate the population include the fact that a minor measure is not taken to save? How to write to a dead person to give you money? How to ask a dead person to give you data from a file? Transcends any limit,” the woman continued.

On the National Road 2 (E85), within the Buzau county, there are 199 crosses erected in memory of people who lost their lives in traffic accidents, more than the approximately 85 kilometers of road.
