The stadium will have a capacity of 30,000 seats and will fall under UEFA category 4.

The Romanian government approved the technical-economic indicators for the construction of a 165 million euro arena in Timisoara, on the site of the city’s Dan Păltinișanu stadium. The stadium will have a capacity of 30,000 seats.

After the approval of the technical-economic indicators, the next steps will be the demolition of the current Dan Păltinișanu stadium, where the future arena will be built, and the launch of tenders for the award of construction contracts.

Most of the investment will be provided by the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration, through the National Investment Company, but the Timiş County Council will also contribute financially.

After the completion of the works, the stadium will fall under UEFA category 4.

The arena is named after the footballer Dan Păltinișanu, who died in 1995, who played as a central defender at Poli Timișoara between 1973 and 1983. Over time, the stadium hosted matches in which Manchester City and Real Madrid played.

The project is part of a longer list of stadiums to be built with funding from the National Investment Company.

The institution, subordinate to the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration, will invest over 3 billion lei in the construction and renovation of some of the largest cities in the country will benefit from investments in sports infrastructure, so that eight stadiums will be built or renovated from the money from the CNI. Bucharest, Alexandria, Constanţa, Hunedoara, Pitesti, Târgovişte and Timisoara are the cities that will have new stadiums in the next two stadiums in the big cities, according to the CNI website.

The biggest investment project will be in Bucharest, where the sports club Dinamo will benefit from a new stadium with a total value of 854 million lei (170 million euros).

Last year, CNI financed 137 projects regarding the construction of sports bases, gyms and swimming pools throughout the country, from large cities to small communes and villages.
