Payton Sandfort on win over Kansas State: ‘I had a blast’

Payton Sandfort discusses a variety of topics following Iowa’s win over Kansas State in the first round of the NIT.

Looking to keep the season going with another postseason win, Iowa basketball travels to Utah for Sunday’s men’s NIT game inside the Jon M. Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City. ESPN2 will televise the 8 pm game.

The Hawkeyes (19-14) delivered a 91-82 win over Kansas State to open the tournament inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena, which is in play to host an NIT semifinal should Iowa advance. No. 1 seed Villanova fell to VCU atop the bracket, meaning the Hawkeyes would host either the Rams or South Florida on April 2. The Bulls also upset No. 4 seed Central Florida.

Meanwhile, Utah (20-14) advanced after Tuesday’s 84-75 home win over UC Irvine. Center Branden Carlson leads the way as the Utes’ top scorer (17.2 ppg).
