469 students from grades VI-XII from schools all over the country participated in the National Physics Olympiad.

Mario Scurtu also won the bronze medal at the National Mathematical Olympiad and will participate, at the end of May, in the Astrophysics Olympiad. He explained to Adevărul how he managed to qualify for four national phases of the Olympics.

It is a very great passion for the exact sciences and a very strong aspiration for this dream, which is correlated with my passion for the Cosmos, so my passion for Physics and later Mathematics as a tool of Physics was born, and then related disciplines, such as Linguistics, and more specialized ones, such as Astrophysics”, says the Olympian.

Mario is a multiple medalist at the national Olympics and at international competitions.

He wants to study at a university in the US

The high school student wants to study at a university in the US.

“After I finish high school, I would like to continue my studies abroad, because I have a passion for Physics and Astrophysics. I see myself studying and practicing physics. I want to come to the United States of America with the help of a scholarship. I haven’t decided on a university yet, because it will also depend on the results in the coming years. I would like to work in the field of astrophysics or physics. Research in our country, in these fields, is not well funded. I don’t have many possibilities for development”, says Mario Short. He really wants to work at NASA or in research.

Mario Scurtu lives in a commune near Târgu Jiu and commutes daily. He is a 10th grade student at the “Ecaterina Teodoroiu” National College in the municipality of Târgu Jiu.
