Android 15 is shaping up to be an impressive release for users of Google’s mobile operating system, bringing significant improvements in terms of volume control and interface aesthetics. After the release of two developer previews of Android 15, we were able to sense the direction Google is going with this new version, planned for release this fall.

Android 15 has one of the most remarkable changes in Android in the complete redesign of the volume sliders. This update not only brings a fresh breath visually, but also enhanced functionality that promises to provide a more intuitive and personalized user experience.

Android 15 contrasts with Android 14, which kept a relatively dated design for volume sliders, a clean aesthetic and eye-pleasing animations, ensuring that the name of each slider is always visible and easy to identify. In addition to the improved visual appearance, the new volume control system introduces the ability to reduce or expand the control panel, via an arrow located next to the Media slider.

This feature is extremely useful because it allows the Media slider to be displayed only when content is playing on the device, and all five volume controls will be available when no media is playing. Furthermore, each slider can now be disabled with a simple tap, an improvement over the previous version, where this functionality was missing.

Android 15 does not have the innovations stopped here. Google has also simplified the nomenclature, removing the word “volume” from the name of each individual switch, thus the names simply become Media, Call, Ring, Notification and Alarm. This change in Android 15 contributes to a cleaner and easier to navigate interface, saving valuable screen space. Additionally, the “Sound and Vibration” header has been removed, and now a persistent toggle for media output appears in its place.

Android 15, although most of the changes introduced appear to be minimal in nature, such as fixing quality issues with the Pixel’s webcam mode or privacy-related tweaks, it’s clear that Google is putting a lot of emphasis on improving the user experience through new visuals and functionality .

Android 15 is approaching the release of the final version, but it remains to be seen what other surprises Google has prepared for us. However, the redesign of the volume sliders and improvements to the sound and vibration panel are a clear sign that the operating system is moving in the right direction, giving users more control and a personalized experience in managing sounds and notifications.
