FCU Craiova missed the qualification in the semifinals of the Romanian Cup, being eliminated by FC Voluntari. The second “quarter” of the competition was decided on penalties. In the 120 minutes of actual play, the score was equal, 0-0. After the execution of the penalties, the scoreboard indicated 4-2 for Ilfoveni.
The two teams took turns leading the game
Ilfoven dominated and scored through Carnat, with a header, but the VAR indicated offside and the goal was canceled (’24).
The hosts’ response was not long in coming, Sidibe made an excellent pass to Blanuț in the center of the big box, but he shot weakly, the ball reaching the goalkeeper’s arms without problems (’27).
Carnat scored once more, following a corner, but the central referee indicated a foul in the attack, after a mutual hold with Blănuță (’31).
At the restart, FCU was more active and dangerous, having a huge wasted opportunity e Blănuță and a bar from Pop (’90+2). Since no goals were scored in the 90 minutes of regulation, the match needed two extra periods.
In the 94th minute, FCU had another goal, after a header by Blănuță. It was played at a good pace, but the scoreboard still remained unchanged. It was 0-0 after the second extra half, even though both teams had two great opportunities, through Ciobanu (‘117) and Padula (‘119).
Voican’s goal, an unprecedented case
In the tiebreakers they scored, FCU scored through Negru and Compagnucci. They missed Pop and Padula.
For its part, FC Voluntari scored through Florea, Ciobanu, R. Popescu and Cascini. Voican missed, if we may say so, as his goal was disallowed as he slipped at the moment of execution and hit the ball with both feet.
