After Adrian Mutu resigned, this evening Cristi Balaj announced that he is also giving up his mandate. The former referee, who was also the head of ANAD, published a message on his Facebook account announcing his resignation.

“The elimination from the Romanian Cup was a disappointment that left traces on me. As of last night I announced that I felt physically ill and faced a difficult condition to manage. It was a feeling I didn’t come across very often.

I feel the need for a break. Time with the family. My girls need a healthy father. Consequently, I have decided to tender my resignation. I hope that Mr. Varga will understand me and accept this decision.

In other words, it is not normal that only the coach is to blame, it is a matter of honor. I also hope that the team overcomes this difficult period and comes back stronger. Romanian football needs clubs that get points in European cups, as CFR Cluj has done in recent years” was Balaj’s message.

There was little chance that Balaj would continue. He opposed the bringing of Mutu

It now remains for financier Nelu Varga to approve the resignation of Balaj, who held the position from November 3, 2021. He still had a contract until the end of the season. As announced by Gazeta Sporturilor, the chances of Balaj continuing were very small.

Especially since in recent months he opposed several decisions of the boss. One of the moments when Balaj did not agree with his boss was when Adrian Mutu was appointed at the helm of the Gruia team! But Varga did not take into account the opinion of the president, and Mutu signed at the end of January. Today, “Briliantul” and Balaj submitted their resignations, on the same day!
