I suspect that there are still many iPhone 12 / 12 Pro / 12 Pro Max, even 12 Mini users in Romania. It’s a quite popular series, especially since Apple brought with this lineup of MagSafe terminals, that magnetic area behind the terminals that allows us to fix various accessories on the back, but also to power wireless devices. Well, a surprise is coming for iPhone 12 users with the update to iOS 17.4. What is it about?

The Qi2 charging standard basically replaces MagSafe functionality. Apple agreed to this recently in the Wireless Power Consortium. What does this mean though? Well, with the update to iOS 17.4 iPhone 12 / 12 Pro / 12 Pro Max / 12 Mini users can charge their phone with 15W power using any wireless charger that supports the Qi2 standard.

In the past, only users using MFi (Made For iPhone) certified MagSafe chargers could enjoy such a charging speed, other wireless chargers being limited to only 7.5W.

It’s also a useful feature for users of external batteries with Qi2 technology such as the Anker MagGo. MacWorld did a test and found that a charge from 0 to 30% using an official MagSafe charger takes 38 minutes. Charging from 0 to 50% was achieved in 70 minutes for one iPhone 12 Pro Max.

With the Qi2 standard, charging via an Anker MagGo external battery was achieved in just 64 minutes from 0 to 50%.
