Frank Tyson, a 53-year-old African-American man from Ohio, died at the hospital shortly after he was tackled to the ground and restrained by officers. In a recording made public by the authorities, you can see how the man told the police that he could not breathe, reports Reuters. The incident recalls the case of George Floyd, who died in 2020 following a brutal arrest.

The Canton Police Department released video Thursday showing officers apprehending Frank Tyson and arresting him for allegedly leaving the scene of a car accident.

The footage is 36 minutes long and begins with an officer on patrol arriving at a car that has hit a utility pole. A witness told him the driver of the vehicle was at a nearby bar.

The cops can be seen entering the bar and finding Tyson at the bar. An altercation begins after they try to immobilize him and the man shouts that they are trying to kill him. “They want to kill me, call the sheriff,” he can be heard on the video.

The officers struggled to get him to the ground and handcuff him, and one of them put his knee on his back and held down for about 30 seconds.

In the footage, Tyson can be heard saying repeatedly that he can’t breathe. “I can’t breathe, get off my neck,” he yells as the officer tells him to calm down.

Six minutes later Tyson is unresisting and lies on the ground, motionless, while the officers speak to the bar patron. Officers then check on the man, who appears to be unresponsive. They can be heard saying, “Is he breathing?”, “Does he have a pulse?”.

Eight minutes after officers restrain Tyson, they remove his handcuffs and begin CPR. The footage shows when the paramedics arrive at the scene, take the man on a stretcher and take him to the ambulance.

Tyson died at a local hospital, according to NBC affiliate WKYC in Cleveland. Reuters could not immediately confirm the information.

The official cause of death has not been determined.

The incident recalls the case of George Floyd, who died following his arrest in 2020. The moment would trigger a wave of protests around the world against police brutality and racism.
