Ukraine and Romania will meet in the first match of Group E from the European Championship in Germany, and the foreign press analyzed the tricolor team and drew some conclusions.

Ukrainian press: “Romania is not an opponent to treat from above”

Ukraine secured the tickets for the European Championship in Germany after defeating Iceland in the play-off final, score 2-1.

They thus complete Romania’s EURO 2024 group, which also includes Belgium and Slovakia, and will play the first match at the final tournament in Germany against the team prepared by Edi Iordănescu.

Journalists from Tribuna analyzed the opponents that Ukraine will meet in groups at the European Championship and dedicated a material for the tricolors.

“Romania is not an opponent to treat from above, first of all because it won the qualification group that also included Switzerland, Israel, Belarus, Kosovo and Andorra.

Switzerland were heavy favorites to win the group, but Romania, who scored 16 goals, the fewest of any group winners, finished in first place. Still, a remarkable result for Romania, who finished the qualifying group unbeaten, with 6 wins and 4 draws.

In an unexpected way, Romania returned to a European Championship after missing out on the final tournament in 2021. Our neighbors have participated in the EURO five times in total, but only once got out of the groups, in 2000.

In the current batch of Romania there are five players who play in the big championships of Europe, but many of them are at clubs in the middle of the ranking or fighting to avoid relegation. Only the reserve goalkeeper Horațiu Moldovan and the defender of Tottenham, Radu Drăgușin, stand out.

There are no big stars in the Romanian team, and the selector is Edi Iordănescu, who only coached at Romanian clubs and at the Bulgarian neighbors (CSKA Sofia).” – they wrote.
