Ciolacu, about Iohannis’s chances at the head of NATO: The president’s advantage is the fact that no one is against his rule

The President of the Social Democratic Party, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, stated, in relation to the chances of President Klaus Iohannis to be NATO Secretary General, that his advantage is the fact that no one is against him and he mentioned that against Mark Rutte, the counter-candidate for this position , are presidents and prime ministers.

The PSD president was asked, on Saturday, on the Insider Politic show on Prima TV, according to News.ro, how he came to support Klaus Iohannis for the post of NATO secretary general, given that the Romanian president accused him of selling Transylvania.

“First of all, I said that I support any Romanian. And I am proud, as a Romanian, not as a prime minister, not as a party president. I am proud when a Romanian reaches a high position. Moreover, when it’s NATO Secretary General. I have nothing to personally support Mr. Iohannis, because I don’t decide. I support any Romanian for any international position”, explained the PSD leader.

He specified that such a function “is Romania’s function”.

“It is Romania’s function. What are we talking about? There are some letters that are forwarded, through representatives, through the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the president of Romania will also participate in this summit. You know very well the decision of the CCR which says that the representative of the Romanian state is the president, not the prime minister, just like in the European Council. I assume that the Minister of Defense is also going, the Minister of Foreign Affairs is also going, these are the procedures”, emphasized Marcel Ciolacu.

Ciolacu was also asked if his soul does not “pain” when he has to support Iohannis.

“I have no political opponents, political enemies, I am not a man who hates. I don’t have that feeling, I’m not frustrated. I am a normal person, a Christian, who, I repeat, is happy if a Romanian, if he succeeds. It’s Daniel, who succeeded the first company, Daniel Dineş, reached a… Naturally, I was happy. It’s one thing… We see, the athletes were the award-winning children at NASA. Out of I don’t know how many prizes, 50 prizes were won by children from Romania, naturally you are happy. It’s your country”, explained Marcel Ciolacu.

Marcel Ciolacu also commented on the chances of President Klaus Iohannis to become the Secretary General of NATO.

“I did not make an assessment. We had discussions with other countries, they are represented by the prime ministers. How is the Chancellor of Germany. We had discussions. President Iohannis’ asset is the fact that no one is against his reign, his candidacy”, explained the PSD president.

Regarding the fact that all important countries support Mark Rutte for this position, Marcel Ciolacu emphasized: “Correct, but there are certain presidents and prime ministers against Mr. Rutte. I say that there will always be a negotiation”.
