The specialists determined that the airport in Galati county will have an area of 250 hectares, to which will be added an area reserved for public investments of approximately 115 hectares. “After many months of negotiations and many trips to Bucharest, we managed to pass a very important stage, namely obtaining the agreement from ROMATSA, delimiting the airspace of the airport. It wasn’t easy, it wasn’t simple, but we managed to unblock the most complicated part at this moment, so that we can continue the studies and expertise, the airport to be built on a land located between Braniştea, Slobozia Conachi and Tudor Vladimirescu. It is an extremely important project, expected by millions of people from Galati, Brăila, Vrancea and Bârlad, as well as from the area of the Cahul district. What is certain is that the airport has not been forgotten or abandoned. We are moving forward and working intensively”announced the president of the Galati County Council, Costel Fotea.

Galati-Brăila International Airport has a passenger terminal and a cargo terminal

The authorities also announced that the airport will take over from the city’s identity, by setting up a promenade area similar to the Danube Embankment in Galati. The airport will be built according to an ecological concept, with a lot of vegetation on the facades and inside, and with the latest generation technologies, for reduced consumption and polluting emissions as low as possible. At the same time, it will be the only airport in Romania with an exhibition space, where passengers will be able to admire different exhibitions and participate in a multitude of cultural events.

According to the project, the Galati-Brăila International Airport is equipped with a passenger terminal, with an area of 28,500 square meters, and a cargo terminal, with an area of approximately 5,500 square meters. For maximum efficiency, the control tower will be integrated into the passenger terminal, which will have 9 boarding gates. The runway will be 3,500 meters long, just like the airports in Otopeni, Timișoara and Constanța.

“Practically, all types of commercial aircraft will be able to take off and land on this runway. We have already completed part of the necessary studies, we are working on others, some requiring many months of data collection and analysis, and in parallel we are analyzing all sources of financing, so that after the completion of the feasibility study we can start the tender for the construction of the airport . We are working as a team, together with our colleagues from the Brăila County Council, so that this important investment objective, which would greatly develop the entire area, becomes a reality”, he mentioned Costel Foteathe president of the Galati County Council.

The specialists included in the project numerous equipment, systems and installations such as photovoltaic panels, intelligent lighting installations, charging stations for electric cars, surveillance system and video analysis based on artificial intelligence (detection of abandoned luggage or vehicles moving in the direction wrong), runway surveillance system (human or vehicle presence detection), state-of-the-art cabin baggage scanning equipment (will allow laptops to be kept in baggage), automatic boarding pass check gates and automation system of the technical area”.
