Kochi: Despite being recognized as the municipality that has utilized most of its plan funds in the district, Maradu municipality has sent letters to the finance minister as well as the local self-government minister seeking urgent clearance of pending bills from treasury for the previous financial year. Municipality officials say delay in clearing bills has affected numerous crucial projects in the local body. Earlier this month, state govt had informed local bodies that all the bills for 2023-24 fiscal which were submitted in a time-bound manner but not passed from the treasury will be considered in the 2024-25 allotment. However, municipality officials expressed concern that since the new dates for allotment have not been declared, there is uncertainty over commencement of vital projects. Municipality chairperson Antony Ashanparambil said bills for 62 projects worth around Rs 83 lakh are pending clearance from the treasury. Additionally, in the scheduled caste (SC) category, bills of seven projects worth over Rs 55 lakh are yet to be cleared. “Crucial bills of projects that benefit disabled persons, Nettoor primary health center and palliative activities are still pending in the treasury without being passed,” said Ashanparambil. He also said the new situation has occurred despite the municipality submitting all bills days before the previous financial year’s deadline of March 25.
