The asphalt in Piaţa Unirii remained “frumix”, although four years ago USR activists close to the current mayor vehemently criticized the work done under the “oblation” of the former chief mayor

The asphalting of parts of the Unirii Square in Braşov (the sections between Căpitan Ilie Birt street and Prundului street and the one from C-tin Brâncoveanu street), caused numerous complaints from civil society four years ago, especially from some USR activists close to the current mayor Allen Coliban, who at that time was preparing his candidacy. They remarked at the time that, although millions of lei had been invested in the transformation of Union Square into a pedestrian area and paving with cubic stone, it was removed and a “hideous asphalting” was carried out. “A few years ago, millions of euros were invested to turn it into a semi-pedestrian market. Cubic stone was placed everywhere. He looked really good. Now, what you see in the picture is the hideous paving of what should be a protected area. You draw the conclusion. Aren’t they beautiful?”remarked a USR activist quoted by the local press.
At that time, City Hall officials told BizBraşov that the paving would be temporary, taking into account that in the area work was being done on the sewage network to connect the approximately 100 households in Şchei that were “pulling water” to the wastewater collection system. Dirty”. After the finalization of those works, some changes would have to be made to the arrangements of the Union Square in order to respond to the requests and needs of the residents of this area.
Although four years have passed since civil society was “boiling” on this subject, the asphalt remained in place and the project circulated at the time for renovations in Piaţa Unirii seems to have been shelved by the current administration. In this context, BizBraşov once again asked for a point of view from the municipality of Brasov, which through the voice of the spokesperson, Sorin Toarcea, told us that there was a building permit for that work four years ago in Piaţa Unirii, and the area will remains at this stage.
