The old tricks of Romanian politicians on the eve of the elections have not disappeared and little by little they are starting to make themselves felt this year as well. As Easter is just a few days away, politicians feel the need to do acts of kindness and offer voters some Easter surprises: food, cakes, wine, accompanied by leaflets, of course.

For example, the PSD Prahova organization publicly denounced a possible electoral bribe given to the residents of Ploiești. Concretely, the residents of Ploiești received Easter gifts from the leaders of the PNL Prahova and PNL Ploiești branches, i.e. cake and wine, along with leaflets, as can also be seen from the photos posted by citizens on Facebook.

PSD Prahova representatives are dismayed by the electoral bribe given, these days, to the residents of Ploiești by the leaders of the PNL Prahova and PNL Ploiești branches.

“In a last attempt to gain a little electoral capital, Iulian Dumitrescu, the criminally investigated president of PNL Prahova and suspended head of CJ Prahova, together with Roberta Anastase, president of PNL Ploiești and PNL candidate for mayor of Ploiești, Bogdan Nica, they use the approach of the Easter holidays to give packages with cake and wine as electoral bribes in Ploiesti!

In this way, we publicly draw attention to this bribery of the electorate and publicly address three questions to the president of PNL Prahova, Iulian Dumitrescu, the president of PNL Ploiești, Roberta Anastase, and the PNL candidate for Ploiești City Hall, Bogdan Nica:

  1. What is the source of the funds from which these 10,000 packages were purchased?
  2. Can PNL Prahova or any of the three persons listed above provide proof of the legal acquisition of these goods?
  3. Does the central leadership of the PNL agree with such practices of bribing the electorate?”, the post states.

PSD Prahova appeals to the people of Ploiești and the people of Prahova not to be bought by this electoral bribe. “The voters’ vote cannot be bought, and this must also be understood by Iulian Dumitrescu and his clique,” reads a post by PSD Prahova on Facebook.

Bags of food at Urlati

Easter gifts have also arrived at Urlati. This time the AUR Prahova branch is the one to signal the situation.

“Today, May 1, in the city of Urlaţi, an unclassifiable act took place that violates not only democratic principles, but also the fundamental values of a fair and ethical election campaign. The PSD candidate for the Urlaţi mayor’s office, accompanied by Senator Laura Moagher, distributed electoral bribes under the pretext of a humanitarian action”, says a press release from AUR Prahova.

AUR Prahova representatives claim that they do not agree with these practices, which they condemn.

“It is unacceptable for a political party to resort, in 2024, to such manipulation tactics in the hope that they will get votes. It is an insult to citizens and democracy to try to win your support by buying votes with the help of grocery bags. We publicly ask PSD Prahova to stop these electoral notices immediately and to respect the integrity of the democratic process”, say the representatives of the political formation.
