Germany, France and the USA are among the top countries that control groups of companies in Romania. 30% of employees work in multinationals

Germany, France and the United States of America occupy the first three places in the top of the countries that control subgroups of enterprises in Romania. According to the data of the National Institute of Statistics (INS), 96,705 enterprise groups were identified in Romania, of which 6,036 resident enterprise groups and 90,669 multinational enterprise groups. Of these, 606 were controlled from within, and 90,063, controlled from abroad.

Out of the total number of multinational enterprise groups controlled from abroad and identified in Romania, in 2022 a number of 14,553 are groups controlled by foreign legal entities, and 75,510 are groups controlled by foreign natural persons.

29.2% of the total number of employees in active enterprises carried out their activity in enterprises that are part of multinational groups controlled from abroad.

Compared to the share of the number of employees, most subgroups of enterprises in Romania were controlled from Germany, France and the United States of America.

The results of 2022 indicate that, depending on the share of the number of employees, the subgroups of enterprises controlled by legal entities or natural persons from Germany (18.1%) were in first place, those controlled from France (11, 2%), and in third place, those controlled from the United States of America (9.3%).

Depending on the share of the number of employees in the total groups of multinational enterprises controlled from abroad, subgroups of enterprises controlled from Germany predominate in the section manufacturing industry (9.3%), wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (3.3 %) and in professional, scientific and technical activities (2.9%).

Regarding subgroups of controlled enterprises in France, 4.5% of employees are found in manufacturing, 2.3% are found in wholesale and retail trade, in the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, and 1.4% are found in information and communications.

Controlled enterprise subgroups in the United States have the most employees in manufacturing (3.8%) and information and communications (2.8%)
