The six-year-old boy from a commune in Gorj county was allegedly sold by his family to a German citizen for the sum of 8,000 lei. Everything would have happened in December. The DIICOT prosecutors got on the phone only in April when the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection received a referral. Then they discovered that the boy was no longer at home.

Lidia Bârsanu, psychologist DGASPC Gorj: My mother has certain health problems

Journalist: “Parents, when they were asked about the little one what did they tell you?”

Lidia Bârsanu, psychologist DGASPC Gorj: “They told us that he is not at home, that he is away in Germany, without giving any other information.”

Journalist: “Didn’t he tell you who he was leaving with? Nothing, no details?”

Lidia Bârsanu, psychologist DGASPC Gorj: “No, he didn’t say. Because we had discussions on the first visit with my mother. The mother, who, unfortunately, has certain health problems”.

The family had two other children in their care: one aged 8 and one aged 2 years and 8 months. They ended up in the care of foster carers.

Lidia Bârsanu, psychologist DGASPC Gorj: “After we took over the two minors at home, the eldest girl, eight years old, basically accepted somehow that someone took her out of the family and offered her a different environment.”

DIICOT prosecutors are now trying to find out how the German citizen managed to get the minor out of the country. He would have used false documents. Authorities are now in contact with those in Germany to determine the child’s situation.
