UPDATE at 16.20: The criminal case regarding the crime of trafficking minors was registered at DIICOT Gorj on April 8, and investigations are currently being carried out in rem, DIICOT said.

“This stage does not mean the formulation of accusations against a person/s, but establishes the procedural framework necessary to gather evidence for the correct and complete establishment of the state of facts that will allow the adoption of a legal and thorough solution in the case”, the institution’s statement reads.

According to DIICOT, the 6-year-old boy was taken on April 18 by the German authorities through the Regensburg Youth Social Service.

Original news: DIICOT was notified by DGASPC, after a request from the National Authority for the Protection of Child Rights and Adoption, coming from the social protection authorities in Germany, to provide more data.

“It was established following the intervention and discussions with the legal representatives that the minor in question is not at home. It was found that there are still two minors at home, minors who were taken over shortly by the representatives of DGASPC Gorj together with the Police representatives, and the special protection measure was instituted for them – emergency placement with professional foster carers”, said the bearer spokesperson of DGASPC Gorj, Minodora Sucea, for news.ro.

The first data from the investigation show that the little boy, who turned six in March, was sold for 8,000 lei. The child’s father is an alcoholic, and the mother has mental problems, the authorities who went to the family home found.

The older sister of the sold boy and the younger brother were found there. The girl is eight years old, and the younger brother is two years and eight months old. Both are now with foster care and follow a psychological counseling program. The authorities requested other medical investigations for the two children.

The Minister of the Family, Natalia Intotero, said that “next week, the president of the National Authority for the Protection of Children’s Rights and Adoption will make an emergency trip to Germany, where he will talk with the German authorities with a view to repatriation, in the shortest possible time , of the minor who is now in their care”.
