Immediately after Easter Sunday, Bright Week began, which imposes more restrictions on household chores.
On Monday, the day after Easter, in several areas of the country, certain traditions and customs were solemnly observed.
For example, the godfathers were visited by the Finns, whom they feasted on the best dishes.
Also, on the second day of Easter, unmarried girls are sprinkled with water by the village boys.
The girls accept with great joy to be drenched, believing that they will soon be married.
This day is marked with a red cross on the calendar, which is why household chores are completely prohibited.
The great feast of the Resurrection of the Lord continues with White Tuesday of Bright Week, that is, the third day of Easter.
On Tuesday, marked with a red cross in the calendar, there is no work, as it is a holiday.
Women share pasture, wine and cakes, then go with the family to visit relatives, neighbors or friends.
It is said that on the third day of Easter it is good to return visits made on Easter Sunday.
When can laundry be done after Easter?
According to the superstitions circulating in the traditional village world, it is not good to work the entire Bright Week.
Moreover, it is forbidden for women to sew this week, because they will die by lightning.
However, the Orthodox Calendar shows us the days of Bright Week when laundry can be done and other household chores can be done.
These are the days that are not marked with a red cross, namely: Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
On Friday, May 10, the Church celebrates a great holiday, marked with a red cross, namely the Healing Spring, which recalls one of the miracles of the Mother of God.
The Illuminated Week ends with “Thomas Sunday”, the first Sunday after Easter, when the Church celebrates the Apostle Thomas, the one who doubted the truth of the Resurrection.
