Romania’s delegation for the Olympic Games in Paris (July 26-August 11) reached 80 athletes, the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee announced on Friday, after Ebru Bolat ensured his presence in the yachting races.

It is for the third time in history that Romania will have yachting athletes at the start of the Olympic competition. Ebru qualified for the last tournament that distributed the Olympic tickets, from Hyeres (France). In the Ylca 6 class, Ebru finished in first place ensuring his participation in the Games. She collected 70 points in 10 races, twice finished first, twice second and once third, in the rest of the races being in the top 10 (in one race she was disqualified).

In 1980, Mihai Butucaru competed at the Moscow Olympic Games, placing 15th in the Finn Class, Mircea Carp and Adrian Arendt, 13th in the Flying Dutchman Class, Andrei Chiliman and Cătălin Luchian – 11th in the Tornado Class.

In Atlanta, in 1996, in the Finn Class, Mihai Butucaru finished 28th, and Horia Ispaş finished 48th in the Laser class.

Ebru Bolat is the double European champion, in the Zoom8 and Optimist classes, being also world vice-champion in Zoom8. Currently, she holds the title of national champion in the Ylca 6 class for seniors, an Olympic class, and is in the top 50 in the world.

Team Romania currently has 80 qualified athletes in 11 sports. Weightlifters Mihaela Cambei (cat. 49 kg) and Loredana Toma (cat. 71 kg) are also qualified, but the formalization is missing.

The Romanian athletes qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games until now:

Athletics (5): Delvine Relin Meringor (marathon), Andrea Miklos (400 m), Alina Rotaru-Kottmann (long), Joan Chelimo Melly (marathon), Bianca Ghelber (hammer throw);

Swimming (2): David Popovici (100 m free, 200 m free), Vlad Stancu (800 m free, 1,500 m free);

Boxing (1): Lâcrâmioara Perijoc (cat. 54 kg);

Canoe (3): Cătălin Chirilă (C1 – 1,000 m), Ilie Sprîncean, Oleg Nuţă (C2 – 500 m);

Rowing (44 places quota): women’s double sculls, lightweight category, women’s double sculls, women’s double sculls, women’s four sculls, women’s four sculls, women’s 8+1, men’s double sculls, men’s double sculls, men’s four sculls, men’s four sculls , 8+1 male;

Artistic gymnastics (6): 5 quota places – female team; Andrei Muntean;

Rhythmic gymnastics (1): Annaliese Drăgan;

Wrestling (1): Andreea Beatrice Ana (cat. 53 kg)

Water polo (13): 13 quota places – men’s team;

Table tennis (3): 3 quota places – women’s team;

Yachting (1): Ebru Bolat (class Ylca 6).
