The deadline for the preliminary evaluation, which covers 8,000 buildings in Bucharest, is the end of 2025, said Mayor General Nicușor Dan, on Friday, on B1 TV, on “Bună, Romania!”.

“Strictly on the matter of the communist blocks, a good thing happened in 2022, the law on the consolidation of buildings with seismic risk was changed – the previous one was from 1994 and had some problems – and in 2023 some meteorological norms also appeared. What did the ministry say very well? He said, instead of starting to expertize chaotically, for all the buildings that have a certain age and a certain height, there are about 8,000 in Bucharest, we do the so-called preliminary assessment, which lasts one day. Basically, I’m an engineer with an assistant who one day do a preliminary assessment, which is not expertise”, declared Nicușor Dan.

“We all gave ourselves a final deadline of 2025, so that all these buildings, 8,000 in Bucharest, which have a certain age and a certain height, is also a score in that methodology, to be ranked to see what is the need for intervention (…). I can’t make an estimate, but compared to the list of buildings with seismic risk that we have now, I expect it to increase two or three times”, said the mayor.
