After the launch of the Pura 70 series of phones in Europe, Huawei seems to be making moves in the software area. Thus, the Chinese company registered the name “PureOS“, about which I have a theory below.

At first glance you might think it’s an alternative to HarmonyOS NEXT or Android, but I think it’s more of a replacement for EMUI. It’s true that the Huawei Pura 70, Pura 70 Pro and Pura 70 Ultra run Android with EMUI 14.2 overlaid, but their successors could receive a special interface.

EMUI is already years behind it and a change wouldn’t hurt. The problem is that there is a fragmentation here and it would be strange like PureOS to also run on the Mate series. That is if there is no rebranding there as well… Judging by the looks of EMUI 14.2, I think that PuraOS will go in the direction of AI, because that is trendy now in the field.

I also believe that it will adopt design changes: extra transparency, larger 3D widgets, wallpaper with generative AI, better integration with smart home and interconnected devices (not that we didn’t already have Super Device). It would also be interesting that the interconnection of Huawei phones with laptops goes to the next level, as Motorola and Lenovo did with Ready For.
