Microsoft’s AI facial recognition features will not be available to law enforcement. The use of Azure OpenAI technologies by the police was expressly forbidden by the company founded by Bill Gates.
Microsoft has changed the terms of use for facial recognition through its Azure OpenAI technology to prohibit its use in any way by or for US law enforcement. Another global ban on artificial intelligence concerns its use by police during patrols.
Thus, in any situation where the police would use body cameras (Body Worn Camera) or dashboard cameras, OpenAI facial recognition technology is prohibited by Microsoft, according to Mashable.
The IT giant already had prohibitions in the terms of use of the OpenAI models regarding the use in the process of identifying suspects. Microsoft also prohibited facial recognition based on physical characteristics until now.
Many police departments in the US are trying to implement the use of artificial intelligence to review the millions of hours of video recorded by officers.
