DIICOT prosecutors initiated an investigation into the sale of a six-year-old boy from Gorj County to a German citizen. The transfer of the minor across the border was carried out apparently without problems.

Investigators are looking to find out the circumstances that allowed the boy to cross the border, the documents used in this transaction and the possible involvement of some officials. Investigations are underway into the alleged use of a false power of attorney.

It seems that the six-year-old boy was sold in December 2023. The family from which the minor comes has several children, but it was not under the supervision of the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection (DGASPC) Gorj, because it was not exposed to the risk of abandonment or is not in a situation of danger for children. The authorities became aware of this transaction when DGASPC Gorj received a notification requesting verification of the minor’s presence at home.

Earlier this month, DGASPC teams visited the family home and did not find the boy, and further investigations revealed that he had been sold for the sum of 8,000 lei.

“The situation of the minor came to the attention of DGASPC Gorj as a result of the address submitted by the National Authority for the Protection of Child Rights and Adoption, in April 2024. The procedure was immediately started according to the legislation in force, the institutions empowered to verify the issues being notified to intervene according to their competences legal (DIICOT)”, Minodorea Sucea, spokesperson of DGASPC Gorj, said.

Immediately after that, the other two children of the family were also taken, an eight-year-old girl and a two-year-old and six-month-old boy, who were placed in the care of foster carers.

“The representatives of DGASPC Gorj went to the family home together with the representatives of the local authority to assess the socio-family situation.

It was found, following the intervention and discussions with legal representatives, that the minor in question is not at home.

It was found that there are still two minors at home, who were taken over shortly by the representatives of DGASPC Gorj together with the Police representatives, and the special protection measure was instituted for them – emergency placement with professional foster carers.

The representatives of DGASPC Gorj together with the director general, Mrs. Minister Natalia Intotero visited the two brothers of the minor at the home of the foster assistants, having discussions with them”, the representatives of DGASPC Gorj also transmitted.
