Just when in Bucharest the emperors were stripping politically to the skin in a meeting that will be included in the anthology, in Washington, Mircea Geoană was recording an interview in which he basically announced his presidential candidacy in the strongest possible terms, considering the position in which he is still there, as NATO deputy secretary:

“…I have to do my duty at NATO until the last day of my mandate. It is an obviously mandatory thing and part of my professional ethics and my obligations as a Romanian political leader and at NATO level. But, seeing what is happening in the country and outside the country, I am getting closer to a decision”.

And, as an interlocutor extremely connected to the bowels of Romanian politics and the real polls repeated to me a couple of times in the last few days: at the moment of speaking, Mircea Geoană is the president of Romania. Which is not even surprising or hard to argue.

After the epic failure of the joint candidacy in the Capital and the split into individual candidacies, there is very little space left for the presidential elections moved to September (it is heard that they want to move them to their place in December, which I don’t think would surprise anyone) PSD and PNL can come up with a common candidate.

The common support of an independent is dead, buried and with the parastas made after the Cîrstoiu episode, at least because I don’t see any man with respect for his own image who will mess with Nicu and Marcel, after seeing how the common candidate was treated .

And a joint political presidency, from either of the two parties, is not a viable solution for the reason that it would not work in Bucharest either: major rejection of any of the candidates by the electorate of the other party.

The scarecrow with extremism obviously didn’t catch on, so it won’t push anyone to the polls.

The country and the coalition, at peace

The worst thing for the two knights of the coalition apocalypse, Nicu and Marcel, is not the failure of the joint candidacy in Bucharest itself. There are miscalculations and misjudgments in politics, I don’t think anyone has been exempt from them anywhere in the world.

The worst is the shocking evidence that they had no calculation or plan to go wrong because they had no calculation, no plan. The evidence is that everything was an improvisation on the knees, a game of tricks. This crisis left them politically in their panties, amateurs and impostors.

If it was only about their own electoral basin, it concerned them, but these people run a country just as I saw them run the issue of the single candidate. Without a substantiated plan, without figures, without serious analysis. A country run like crazy.

For Marcel Ciolacu, the spectacle of humiliation is also devastating. Humiliation towards Gabriela Firea, recovered as a savior after humiliating her in turn – the candidate for now, the fifty-fifty candidate, to whom he now promises to personally collect signatures.

Humiliation towards Piedone, the one with whom no one wanted to talk, the one with the smoke of the grills, who is now begging him to give up his candidacy. The decision is not up to Piedone, it’s up to Dan Voiculescu. And the longer the prompt, the higher the withdrawal price would be.

Dan Voiculescu’s stake is not necessarily the Capital City Hall. She is a means to raise her party’s score above 5% in MEPs and MEPs, to be a political player again.

Does Ciolacu really want Gabriela Firea to win? I wrote before, tough question. In the internal party equation, he does not need a victorious rival, so before the Cîrstoiu episode the answer would have been firmly negative.

From now on, however, Gabriela Firea’s failure will no longer be hers, it will be his, because Firea entered too late, after his nonsense with the common candidate, because if he was not late, Piedone would not enter, because he antagonized him on Pedestrians.

“If Firea was the first nominee, today I was a candidate for Sector 5”, this statement that Piedone repeats obsessively, Ciolacu will hear obsessively, if Firea loses. The Cîrstoiu episode changed everything.

In addition, after they glued the MEPs, to strengthen them, to the local ones, after they made common lists, surely all the accidents from the local ones will have an impact on the score from the MEPs.

The big culprit

With the stamp of amateurs, politicians in panties, armed with paper helmets and wooden swords, the two knights of the apocalypse paint the fence as best they can, but behind it, at the presidential, the leopard is waiting for them.

Mircea Geoană was also in his panties in 2009, he felt the dirt in his teeth and the sharp humiliation from the mocking stamps that followed him for years. He crossed the desert alone, but he has the credit of having metabolized the past and, apparently at least, of having learned from it, thus achieving an unlikely reinvention 15 years ago.

He refined himself in high-level politics, exchanged domestic stamps for the valuable label of NATO. The only real danger is that he will fall into the sin of arrogance that has cost him in the past. All in all, comparison with the rest of the offer doesn’t really exist.

But for this situation, the main culprits are not the two coalition leaders. They can and are a product of the main culprit. The one who from Seoul spat through his teeth the realization that the loss of the common candidate is no great success.

In 10 years, Mr. Klaus Iohannis destroyed politics in Romania with tenacity and aplomb. In order to ensure a comfortable life, so that no one would disturb him, so that no one would oppose him, so that he would have absolute power in his own interest, Mr. Iohannis cleared out the political class by all means.

It destroyed political mechanisms, it bent political logic, it confused democracy and common sense. Nicu and Marcel are the crowning of his tireless political work.

There is nothing unnatural that the only viable offer is one that comes from outside the country, from outside the Iohannis system.
