What Daniel Breaz says about his continuity as rector of the “1 Decembrie 1918” University: “In my first term, I started with a great ambition, to bring international students”

On April 25, the rector of the “1 December” University in Alba Iulia, spoke live on radiounirea.fm about the projects implemented in previous mandates, but also how important long-term continuity is and what future plans he has for the university from White.

In my first term, I started with a great ambition: to develop international relations, to try to connect the university with as many similar institutions outside the country as possible, and mainly to bring in international students. I thought that overnight I would succeed in this aspect, but I succeeded only in the first year of my second term. It was almost five years in the making. This required a lot of work and it was necessary to win the trust of our partners, to win the trust of the embassies in Romania. You had to present the university and the city of Alba Iulia in a certain way, to have reasons to convince young people from different countries why to come here, to convince embassies why young people should come to Alba Iulia,” Daniel Breaz told radiounirea.fm.

He also says that just for the name of the faculty and that Alba Iulia is the soul capital of Romanians, it is not enough to attract the necessary attention. You have to have well-arranged arguments to attract young people to come to Alba, and this is done over time, that’s why continuity is important. The mayor also talks about the possibility of 5-, 6-year mandates, but even these represent too little time, if we want a long-term strategy, only for ideas on a shorter period of time would be beneficial.

I analyzed what I have done, the goals I have achieved in my other terms as rector and what I need to do next. This was one of the objectives we proposed and we have already started their implementation, the closest possible connection with the economic environment and employers. In one term, no matter how good you are, I don’t think you can achieve much. Time flies, a year has passed and you don’t even know it. But by going and making a plan, a strategy, over a long period of time, 10-15 years, you can succeed.

Now, after 12 years, I have a very clear idea of exactly where I want the university to go and how I want it to grow. I want to increase the number of students, to bring in more international students. We have increased the tuition capacity in the preparatory year by 50%, because we have a lot of requests. Let’s build another student dormitory, improve the material base, renovate building C, the other opposite the park. There are projects that we are starting now and can only be realized in 4, 5 years,” the rector of the University “1 Decembrie 1918” from Alba Iulia also told.
