WTA leader Iga Swiatek won her first Mutua Madrid Open title after saving three match points in the final against world number two and trophy holder Aryna Sabalenka.

Swiatek won 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7), in the longest final of this season on the WTA circuit. The thriller passed the 3-hour mark, before Swiatek sealed his incredible comeback after 3 hours and 11 minutes.

The Madrid Open is the 20th career title for Swiatek and the third this season. The 22-year-old Pole is the youngest player to win 20 WTA titles since Caroline Wozniacki, who achieved the feat in 2012.

Last year, it was Sabalenka who won the final at the Madrid Open, right in front of Swiatek.

At the awards ceremony, the organizers exaggerated the noise produced when the confetti was launched, and Iga Swiatek got a terrible scare.
