A woman from Arad was caught red-handed while taking a 5,000 euro bribe from another woman, in order to release her husband from prison

A woman from Arad was placed under house arrest for 30 days, after she was caught in the act while taking a 5,000 euro bribe from another woman. The money had been requested to free the latter’s husband from pretrial detention. The accused is now being investigated for influence peddling.

The flagrant took place on Tuesday, within the radius of the municipality of Arad. With the promise that she would intervene before the magistrates, the 32-year-old woman asked another woman, whose husband is in pre-trial detention, for the sum of 5,000 euros.

“On April 23, the prosecutor from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Arad Court together with the policemen from the County Police Inspectorate – Criminal Investigation Service, the 2nd Section of the Arad Rural Police and the Nădlac City Police caught in the act, within the radius of the municipality of Arad, a 32-year-old defendant while demanding the sum of 5,000 euros from the witness CE, in order to intervene before the magistrates, with a view to the release of the witness’s husband from pre-trial detention”, states the statement sent by the Public Prosecutor’s Office Arad Court.

A criminal case for influence peddling was opened against the woman who claimed the bribe. At the prosecutor’s proposal, the defendant was placed under house arrest for a period of 30 days.
