A 47-year-old patient who suffered an acute ischemic stroke was transferred, on Saturday, by a SMURD helicopter, from the Cluj County Emergency Hospital to SCJU Suceava, to extract the blood clot from the affected cerebral vessel. Previously, he was refused by five other Interventional Radiology centers, either due to the lack of kits for the intervention, or due to the lack of staff, reports News.ro.
“A short time ago, a 47-year-old patient with an acute ischemic stroke was transferred to SCJU Suceava by SMURD helicopter, from the County Emergency Hospital in Cluj. The patient’s symptoms started at 11:30. Thrombolysis (administration of drugs that dissolve the blood clot) was performed at 2 p.m. at the hospital in Cluj. Because there was no significant improvement in the symptoms, it was decided to transfer the patient to the Suceava County Clinical Hospital for the extraction of the blood clot from the affected cerebral vessel, by the Interventional Radiology team”, explained, on Saturday, the representatives of the County Clinical Hospital Emergency Suceava.
According to the quoted source, it is the first request of this kind received from a university center. The team that contributed to this success was made up of doctors from UPU, neurologist Dr. Ana Burca, anesthesiologist Dr. Crina Tiron, interventional radiologists Dr. Cătălin Lulciuc and Dr. Mircea Gabriel, assistants.
“It is important to specify that the patient was previously refused by 5 other Interventional Radiology centers either because of the lack of grouts for the intervention, or because of the lack of personnel”, mentioned SCJU Suceava representatives.
