A controversy has already appeared: this is after Gigi Becali revealed that he lent PSD half a million euros, and the AUR leaders also asked the millionaire from Pipera for money.

The election campaign started with a scandal. In Timisoara, for example, in the middle of the night, the activists of the opposition parties AUR and USR fought and were on the verge of a full-scale fight. And unfortunately, it is possible to witness such scenes until June 9, because the tensions on the political scene are already at their highest, especially in the territory, where the political struggle is much hotter than the one in the top of the governing coalition.

But, in Bucharest, we already have a major controversy. Gigi Becali, the boss of the FCSB, revealed that he lent PSD half a million euros, money that the social democrats will use in the election campaign. And not only the PSD appealed to the vault of the landowner from Pipera, but also the AUR leaders, who were at the palace in the center of the Capital on Thursday and asked Becali to help them with money for the campaign.

Controversies on the first day of the election campaign

It’s just that here we are somehow at the limit of the law. If we analyze the party financing law, we find that political formations can indeed borrow money from individuals or legal entities, sums that they must return within three years. It’s just that, in this case, we have a major problem because the law imposes strict rules regarding expenses and money collected by parties during campaigns.

They can only use money that comes from candidates or from their own funds, not money that comes from external sources. The law on the financing of political parties also stipulates that the parties can finally come to an agreement with the financiers and turn these loans into donations. In other words, if an agreement is reached between the parties, then it is very possible that after the electoral campaign, the parties will remain with that money in their accounts.

But it should also be mentioned that after the campaign, the Permanent Electoral Authority covers all expenses incurred by the parties in the campaign, with one condition, that the parties, political alliances or independent candidates reach the minimum threshold of 3% of the votes in the local and European parliamentary elections.
