Romanians can sue the state if they get sick, says MEP Nicu Ştefănuţă. To do this, however, you need to check a certain condition. What is it really about?

What do you do if you got sick from pollution

Nicu Ştefănuţă discussed his engagement in the European Parliament.

Nicu Ștefănuță declared that, in his opinion, this mandate was the most productive in terms of legislation. He mentioned that he is the only green representative from Romania in the European Parliament and the only candidate from the green and progressive area.

Regarding the achievements of the European Parliament, he emphasized that the air quality directive is being voted on today.

This means that people suffering from conditions such as asthma can sue the state if they become ill due to pollution.

According to him, pollution problems are not present only in Bucharest or Cluj. He also said that these can be found in:

  • Brasov
  • Timisoara
  • IASI
  • Ploiesti

He also said that pollution is a big problem, emphasizing that the incidence of cancer in Romania is high.

He also said that Romanians live about 10 years less than Westerners. Basically, he says he’s concerned about people’s well-being.

“It was the most productive mandate, according to me, in terms of legislation. By the way, I am the only green from Romania in the European Parliament and the only candidate from the green, progressive zone.

What has the European Parliament achieved? He accomplished a lot. Today we are voting on the air quality directive. What does it entail? People, like me, for example, because I have bronchial asthma, can go to court, if they get sick from pollution.

I spent many days in the street, in Bucharest, and the pollution is horrible, if you walk on the street. Not only in Bucharest, but also in Cluj, even in cities like Brasov or Timisoara, Iasi, Ploiesti. It’s a big problem. People get sick, the incidence of cancer in Romania, people live less in Romania, about 10 years less than Westerners. That concerns me”, said Nicu Ştefănuţă.

The air quality directive is a success

Nicu Ștefănuță emphasized that the air quality directive and the law on restoring green spaces in cities are important achievements.

He mentioned that he is very attached to all initiatives related to the protection of forests, including the implementation of a traceability system for wood. This system will help to avoid their abusive cutting.

He also emphasized the importance of circular economy measures. Basically, he declared that in Romania significant profits can be obtained from the new green economy.

He explained that environmental protection policy is not only ecological, but also economic. Thus, he brought into discussion the existence of multinationals in the field of waste management and the IT industry.

They can help create jobs and generate profits from sustainability-oriented activities.

“The directive for air quality is a success, the law for the restoration of nature that says to stop cutting green spaces in cities is a success. I really care about everything that has been done regarding forests, the fact that it is that traceability that we have to know where every piece of wood comes from, if it has a production certificate, so that we don’t cut wood any more. Everything else that has to do with the circular economy. Here, you can make a lot of money from the new green economy.

Everyone thinks that this policy is only ecological, but it is not ecological, it is also economic. We have a multinational in the field of waste. We have in IT and in waste. So we can make money, green jobs can be born, so to speak, which are much more interested in sustainability”, Nicu Ştefănuţă also declared.
