The European Union is investigating a tender in Romania for the construction of a photovoltaic park. The bidders are Chinese companies

--

The European Union has opened two investigations to determine whether two Chinese bidders received excessive subsidies in their bids for a public tender for a photovoltaic park in Romania, the European Commission announced on Wednesday.

The first investigated consortium consists of ENEVO Group from Romania and a subsidiary of the Chinese company LONGi Green Energy Technology. The second involves subsidiaries of the Chinese state company Shanghai Electric Group, reports Reuters.

According to an EU official, the total value of the contract is approximately 375 million euros.

The commission said it was justified to open in-depth investigations because there was sufficient evidence that both Chinese firms benefited from foreign subsidies that distorted the EU’s single market.

Under EU regulations on foreign subsidies, which apply from July 2023, companies are required to notify the European Commission, which must then assess whether the subsidies allow companies to submit excessively advantageous offers.
