PNL Prahova announced on Wednesday, April 24, through a press release that Iulian Dumitrescu submitted his candidacy for a new mandate as president of the County Council as president of PNL Prahova. Iulian Dumitrescu is being prosecuted by the DNA in a corruption case and announced in February that he was retiring from the position of president of the PNL county organization.

Protests in front of the Prahova County Electoral Office

The decision was taken after discussions with the mayors and the other local elected officials who asked Dumitrescu for continuity at the county administration level, in the context of the projects of over 3 billion euros from European funds that CJ Prahova managed to attract in his mandate. Iulian Dumitrescu declared that he has the legal and constitutional right to run for office, collaborates with the criminal investigation institutions, considers himself innocent and expects a decision from the judiciary as soon as possible.

On Wednesday afternoon, in front of the Prahova County Electoral Office, several people gathered to show their dissatisfaction with the candidacy of Iulian Dumitrescu. After a scandal with the security company, a representative of the protesters managed to go to BEJ Prahova and submit a memorandum through which people showed their dissatisfaction with Dumitrescu’s intention to run.
