Serious accident in Galati, where a policeman on a motorcycle met his end right next to his girlfriend, after a 25-year-old driver turned without insurance and collided with the motorcycle.

Following the impact, the 41-year-old lawman was rushed to the hospital, but despite the doctors’ efforts, nothing could be done for him. His girlfriend also needed care, but she is out of any danger. The dramatic accident took place right next to a church in the city. In the case, the prosecution will also be extended for the crime of manslaughter.

What were the dynamics of the accident

On May 5, 2024, at 2:52 p.m., the Galati County Police Inspectorate was alerted by calling SNUAU 112 regarding the occurrence of a road accident on Marea Unire boulevard in Galati, resulting in bodily injury to two people.

From the preliminary investigations, the police officers from the Galaţi Road Bureau established that a car, driven by a 25-year-old young man from the municipality of Galaţi, while traveling on the said street in the 1st traffic lane, with the direction of travel from Portului street towards Cloșca boulevard, after passing Viva Park and arriving in front of a church, he would have performed the turning maneuver, at which point he would have collided with a motorcycle traveling in the same direction on lane 2 and which was driven by a 41-year-old man from the city of Galati.

As a result of the impact, two people who were on the motorcycle at that time were injured, it is about its driver who was seriously injured and a 34-year-old woman.

The medical crews from SMURD Galati and from the Galati County Ambulance Service who intervened on the scene performed resuscitation maneuvers on the injured man, after which he was transported to the hospital in an unconscious state. The passenger on the motorcycle was also taken to the hospital, in order to receive medical care.

The driver has a valid driver’s license, and when tested with the breathalyzer, the result was negative. In the case, a criminal file was opened for the commission of the crime of bodily injury due to negligence, and during the investigations, the circumstances in which this road accident occurred will be established precisely.
